On Tuesday February 27th, Archbishop Curley students participated in an assembly celebrating Black History Month. Earlier in February students gathered to reflect on the origins of Black History Month by watching a segment recorded by Byron Pitts ’78 for ABC News. The school community also participated in prayer and a reflection delivered by Friar Chris. On Tuesday, the Black Student Union presented an assembly that included a reflection on the past as well as contemporary stories. Students viewed a film detailing the life and vocation of Fr. Augustus Totlon, the first African-American priest. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Charles Jackson ’02 and BSU president Daniel DeShields ’25. The guest panelists were Brian Hubbard ‘98, Justin Hill ‘02, and Edderson Colson ‘10, who shared stories of their professional success as well as their advice to current students as they pursue their dreams.
