The initiation of the Distinctive Scholars had, as its premise, the affirmation and celebration of the academic talents of students in our Catholic secondary schools of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The Distinctive Scholars Convocation provides the opportunity to gather our top academic students, as one body, to receive their rightful recognition of the academic achievements that they have accomplished over the four years of their high school careers. This annual academic convocation applauds and affirms what is accomplished at each individual Catholic school and demonstrates the unity and common mission of the pursuit of academic excellence within the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Zach Lee
Zach Lee came to Curley as a junior transfer and made an immediate and positive first impression. Before classes began, Zach took initiative, coming to ask what he would need to be successful in my class, displaying maturity and a commitment to academic success. Zach continues to excel in my Anatomy and Physiology class, demonstrates strong leadership skills, and has been a Curley success story both academically and as a member of the varsity football and basketball teams. He is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Math Honor Society.
Brandon Yackulak
Brandon is one of the kindest, most conscientious and intelligent young men in his class. He has taken many challenging courses and has excelled in all of his courses with the highest grades. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Saint Bonaventure Scholars Program and is president of the Math Honor Society. He has also served in the school’s peer ministry program and has grown as a spiritual leader in the school. He is also a star member of the Curley baseball team. He plans to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering in college.
Enrique “Ricky” Schissler
Ricky represents the best of Curley, on and off campus, in a wide variety of ways. Ricky is a member of the National Honor Society and the St. Bonaventure Program, Curley’s scholars cohort. During his high school career, he earned First Honors every quarter with a GPA of 4.5. He is in the top three of his class of 119 peers.
Outside the classroom, he dedicates time to Curley’s Franciscan Youth Ministry (FYM) leadership team, planning Masses, community prayers, and retreats. He is also a two-year captain of the Varsity Soccer team, earning All-Conference, All-State, All-Region, and All-American honors as a 4-year varsity starter.
