The sky was blue and the weather was gorgeous as many people gathered on Curley’s campus for Homecoming 2019.
The day began with over 35 alumni braving the 9 o’clock hour to compete in a friendly soccer game. The ages of the players stretched from 20 to 66 as the “old-timers” showed their stuff in the Curley Bowl. The Varsity Friars came down to watch some of the action and get a photo with the alumni. Needless to say, Curley won.
The Varsity Friars fell behind the Dons in the 12th minute, but Loyola exuberance did not last long. Bryce Woodward answered with a goal 50 seconds later. Curley added two more scores within the next 5 minutes on the feet of Dylan Sloan and Jalen Anderson. Although Loyola pressed often, the Curley defense held and generated several opportunities. Curley is now 13-2-1 overall and 10-1 in their division of the MIAA A Conference. Their next game is home on Wednesday against Boys’ Latin.
The Football Friars never let the Crusaders of St. Paul’s get ahead as Curley dominated St. Paul’s with a final of 49-14. Julian Howard had two touchdowns. Josh Knapp, Ron Clark, Deasani White, Denzel Evans and Kofi Kwaw each had one tally. Josh Knapp converted on all 7 PAT’s and had two interceptions.
At halftime of the homecoming football game, the following were inducted into the Curley Athletic Hall of Fame:
Michael Boettcher ’98 (Wrestling, Football, Track)
Bill Dawson Athletic Director for 27 years
