On Friday, February 1, at an assembly of the students, faculty and staff of Archbishop Curley High School, the 2019 Barry Brownlee Excellence in Teaching Award was presented to Mr. Michael DeMarco.
Mr. DeMarco has been a science instructor at Curley for 44 years. He has held numerous positions at the school and moderates the chess club and the biology club.
About this year’s winner, one student said, “He teaches class with passion and really cares about his students. He is always willing to help and make sure we understand.”
Another student says that the winner is worthy of the award because “he is an excellent teacher. He makes topics entertaining, makes difficult lessons easy to understand, and cares about his students.”
Another student reports that the winner “was one of the key teachers who influenced me to come to Curley on my shadow day. He also was willing to help me with his class before and after school last year. He also encourages his students to be involved in and outside the classroom. Although I do not have him this year he always makes sure to say hi in the halls and to check in with me.”
Congratulations Mr. DeMarco!
